From filmmaker Carol Bash comes a feature length documentary on Mary Lou Williams, noted jazz pianist, composer and arranger, whose story has been largely unknown until now. From the film’s site:
"In a time when women were expected to stay at home and raise children, Mary Lou Williams forged her own path and created some of the most sophisticated big band hits for Andy Kirk, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington and many other popular orchestras in the 1930s."
The documentary is years in the making and has attracted the voice talents of Alfre Woodard, Wendell Pierce and Delroy Lindo, and music from Esperanza Spalding.
The production team is currently in fine cut…
