    How did NFMLA get started?When I came to L.A., I felt like there really weren’t any ongoing forums throughout the year for people who were in the entertainment industry and wanted a place to showcase their work, showcase themselves—or for those from the community who wanted to see more independent filmmaking. I got together with my now co-founder Susie Kim and we launched NewFilmmakers Los Angeles in 2007.
    What’s a common mistake actors make when producing their own work?It’s to not think like a producer. If you’re an up-and-coming actor, think about the best way to showcase yourself. Is it by having a starring role in whatever kind of project you’re putting together? Or is it putting on your producer hat and thinking strategically, e.g., Can I get an actor on board who’s already more established than I am and can possibly help to increase the visibility of this film? It may be the deciding factor of whether you get into a major film festival. And that major film festival may be the deciding
