After 19 years at licensing company Samuel French, Brad Lohrenz has relocated to Playscripts Inc., a company known for its acquisition and licensing services geared toward amateur and school productions.
What is Playscripts known for?Playscripts is known for its appeal to schools and amateur groups, but it has a whole back catalog of plays and musicals that would appeal to a more general theater community. We have “High Fidelity,” which, while it didn’t do well on Broadway, I think there’s an audience for it. There are playwrights in here who just haven’t had the opportunity to get the exposure they deserve.
What are some tools to make the process easier? We have a wonderful search feature on our website so that anyone [is] able to sort it by what they’re looking for. [There are] fabulous monologue books here that they’ve created. On our website there are also monologues extracted from Playscripts plays.
What sets Playscripts apart? We’re very tailored to the teachers and students. We make it very easy for people who haven’t had a lot of theater experience and need to direct a school show. They can pick the show, pay for it then and there, and they’re allowed to print X
