    Comic heroes pull in audiences on the big screen, so filmmaker and comic book fan George Daileda decided to create a Web series on the increasingly popular cosplay culture that is developing from the widespread success. Daileda wanted to show the “duality of [cosplayers’] lives” through a fictional storyline. The series follows six main characters in the cosplay world as well as exploring their lives outside of cosplay and how the cosplay affects their lives. “It follows how different they are when they are in costume, and how different their lives are rather than what they portray whenever they’re at conventions,” he explains. 
    “I like working with new talent,” says Daileda. “I like seeing what they have to bring. I pretty much loved everyone from Backstage so far—I actually have never gotten a person I’ve disliked.” Daileda has always believed it’s important to be open-minded when making casting decisions; back in film school, an actor came in for the female protagonist, but really struck Daileda as a great choice for the villain. “So we changed everything about the villain because she was such a perfect fit for that role.
