"Da Sweet Blood of Jesus" – Spike Lee’s “maybe it was, maybe it wasn’t” remake of Bill Gunn’s seminal 1973 horror drama, “Ganja and Hess,” set among the world of the black intelligentsia, was intended to be a new and different step in Spike’s career trajectory.
Funded mainly through a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, the film, however, received mixed reviews; and like most of Spike’s more recent endeavors, was controversial with people on both sides so the fence. Well that is, among those who saw it, since the film did not get a wide theatrical release earlier this year. and there has been no released reports on how well the film did during its initial VOD release.
