Common sense. We all have it. We all need it. We should all be using it every single day. We are, by nature of our jobs, both actors and casting directors alike, creative people who have to and should think outside the box. Sometimes we get to dance around the norm. Oftentimes we get second and third chances to show others just how fantastic we are. That all being said, there is no excuse for throwing away common sense.
In AuditionsWe sent an appointment to an agent who represents an actor we want to see for the lead role in a new television series. Sounds normal, right? Stay tuned. The agent calls us to ask if his client can come straight to the director, skipping the pre-read, because Bartholomew (not his real name at all) has a few series regular credits. It’s true, he does. After a little back and forth, we agree to this request even though this is a callback session for the director and all of the producers—which is really a big risk Bartholomew is taking.
A few days later we get an email from the agent saying Bartholomew gets extremely nervous when he auditions, and if there are more than two people in the room it usually doesn’t go well, and can we please arrange it so it’s only the director
