As June comes to an end, many of you will be wrapping up your lives as college students so you can embark on the next and most challenging part of your lives. Despite the often cynical nature of this column, I sincerely wish you the best of luck. My heart is always open to anyone who has the courage to pursue his or her dreams.
I’m not here to tell you the road will be difficult—you already know that. And I’m not here to give you inside information on how to join the union or how to find the right agent—that can wait. Instead, I’d like to impart some wisdom that will help keep you on track when the winds of perceived failure start to blow you off course.
Right now, the single most valuable lesson you must learn is to never, ever take rejection personally. Because you know what? You’re going to get lots of it. That’s the nature of being an actor. And you will not succeed if you allow every rejection to shatter your confidence.
