I’m very holistic in the way I coach, meaning I’m not just interested in you being a great actor; I also want you to be happy and fulfilled. This business can make you needy, greedy, jaded, and desperate. It can extinguish your beautiful light. But it doesn’t have to. I always encourage my students to be generous. The universe is like rubber; you give what you get. So if you’re desperate and contracted, the world contracts around you. And if you’re generous and expansive, the world expands around you.
You want to be generous because it’s the right thing to do, but if you are generous to those with whom you work, they will usually respond and be generous back and help you more. And creativity flourishes in an atmosphere of generosity.
1. Be generous in your acting. Your acting will be enormously more powerful if you stop thinking, Me, me, me! Instead of listening to yourself, listen to the other actor. Make the whole scene be about the other actor. Be intrigued by him, be surprised by him, and try to make him look good.
