Mr Yul Edochie, a popular Nollywood actor, on Friday said that drugs do not enhance good performance but confidence, skills, diligence and talent.
Edochie said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja. According to him, staging a good performance and acting only requires confidence, skills, diligence and talent instead of going artificial with hard drugs, which could be harmful.
He said that those who use hard drugs during performance in the industry do so at their own detriment.
“Though some people say that actors use hard drugs, I have not seen any, but I know of few musicians and not actors that use drugs.
“For me, I do not admire anybody that uses hard drug, because I do not believe that it aids ones performance, rather it will complicate my health.
” I do not need hard drug to be able to perform on stage or anywhere and I will never use it because I do not believe that such drugs can make me to perform better.
” I am totally against anything hard drug for myself, any artiste or any professional irrespective of your field, but at the same time I am not the law,” he said.
He also urged the law enforcement agency to prosecute drug traffickers irrespective of their personality. He advised artistes in the entertainment industry to improve on their personal input rather than resort to using illicit drugs to enhance their performance.
Edochie, a theatre practitioner, enjoined his colleagues and artistes to acquire more training in their profession to boost their performance instead of indulging in drug addiction for excellence.
Yul is the son of the veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie, known as Okonkwo in the famous film entitled ‘Things Fall Apart,’ an award winning book by late Chief Chinua Achebe
