Kannywood producer and actor, Abba Almustapha, has said that he is working on his first English movie.
Almustapha said his aim is to attract non-Hausa speaking audience to Kannywood movies.
“This time around we are going to have the film in English with Hausa subtitling.” Almustapha said.
He disclosed to PREMIUM TIMES that the title of the movie is ‘There is a way’.
According to Almustapha, the movie is about child education and its numerous challenges especially in Northern Nigeria.
“I decided to produce this film because I feel it is only us that can tell the story of ourselves more accurately,” he said.
“It will tell our fans and the world that Kannywood stars are well educated and can act in English from Kano or any other part of the north.”
Ummah Shehu, who starred in the movie, said she was excited by Almustapha’s initiative.
“I was excited when I was chosen for a role in the film,” she told PREMIUM TIMES. “I always want to do something different and now this is an opportunity to also act in English without going to Lagos.”
Other actors that will feature in the movie include Hawwa Maina, Nuhu Abdullahi and Saratu Gidadu.
Some Hausa Film producers have featured Nollywood actors in Kannywood movies. Some of the actors featured include Nkem Uwoh, Patience Ozokwor and John Okafor.
