  • #Nollywood Entertainment #Nigeria News: Rotary Club of Gbagada, Lagos Intensifies Campaign Against Polio

In continuation of the campaign to kick out polio from Nigeria, the Rotary Club of Gbagada, as one of its projects for the service year, has initiated a campaign through a branded bus that would ply Ikorodu to CMS to create more awareness on polio.

Speaking during the launch of the campaign at Majidun, the District Governor, Rotary International, District 9110 comprising Lagos and Ogun states, Patrick Ikheloa, said though Nigeria has been declared free of polio for the past two years, it is imperative to sustain the freedom for the next one year for the nation to be totally absolved of the virus.

“We are unveiling this bus to continue with the campaign against polio by sending message to the public to be at alert and not relent in immunizing their children against the deadly virus. In Lagos, we have a population of over 20 million people and as the bus plies its route for months, millions of people would be reached.”

The president, Rotary Club of Gbagada, Lanre Akintilo, reiterated that “polio is an endemic disease that Rotary International has decided to wipe out from the surface of the earth.

“This is our strategy to ensure that polio is kicked out of Nigeria and the world and we have involved the Polio Ambassador, Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele, to reach millions of people.”

Other projects of the club within the service year include donation of two dialysis machines to Gbagada General Hospital to bring down the cost of dialysis, renovation of Ifako Primary School, club foot project to provide shoes that would assist children and infants that have deformities on their legs, and others.carrying out of micro-credit scheme project at Ososa by providing soft loans for widows among others.
