Poised to take Ebonyi youths who are into street hawking off the streets, veteran Nollywood actor cum producer, Andy Chukwu, has partnered with the Ebonyi State government on a skill acquisition programme tagged, Street to Skills, which ensures to train and empower all Ebonyi youths who are into street hawking.
In a chat about the programme, Andy Chukwu said that the rate at which Ebonyi youths are involved in street hawking in the major roads of the country is disturbing the state governor and that is the reason why he decided to come up with the programme.
His words: “The programme which is divided into three phases is made to take Ebonyi youths off the street. The first stage which we are on now is to visit the major cities of the country and take statistics of all Ebonyians hawking on the roads. The second stage is to design a programme to rehabilitate these youths after which we will start empowering them. We are also partnering with Lagos State government on this project.
“This project I will say is passion driven. I have long had passion for something like this and I am so grateful that Governor David Umahi-led Ebonyi State administration has thrown their support behind me. I have been doing this before now as I always relate with Ebonyians wherever I see them anywhere, even in neighbouring countries.”
In a statement made available to Vanguard, the Secretary to Ebonyi State Government, Prof. Benard Odoh, said that the government has made adequate plans to properly empower the youths.
