Following the growth of the Hausa movie industry known as Kannywood, there are lots of actors and actresses that have done very well for themselves in the industry winning lots of accolades. In this piece JULIANA ETEBOM writes on some Kannywood actors to watch out for in 2016.
Ali Nuhu
Ali Nuhu though wasn’t the most successful Kannywood actor who won laurels for himself in 2015 but for winning Leadership entertainer of the year award is a huge pride and success. The Nigerian actor, producer, director and television personality referred to in the media as the “King of Kannywood”, has appeared in hundreds of Hausa language films and several English language films, and earned numerous accolades. Nuhu who has significant followers in Africa and the Nigerian diaspora worldwide in terms of audience size and income, has been described as one of the most successful film stars in Africa. Even with the continued controversies befalling his image in the north. The actor is set to be one of the best in (Nollywood) Kannywood. He has been seen in around some European countries this year shooting some blockbusters for Kannywood.
Hadiza Gabon
Hadiza Aliyu who is also doubles as a filmmaker is regarded as one of the most popular actress considered by many in Kannywood and a good role model as she appears to be highly cultured and well dressed. She was in the entertainment rave Hadiza is an ambassador for MTN Nigeria and have won the Best Actress Jury Award at the 2nd Kannywood/MTN Award is an actress to watch out for this year.
Sadisu Abba Sawaba
Sadisu ‘was motivated and encouraged, so he went into acting, he was initially reluctant about it because he wanted to keep his profession as a teacher. He was convinced he could do it, and that was how it started. But he has been reading a lot about the entertainment industry and watched a lot of American films whilst growing up and so some how he developed a passion for the entertainment industry especially for acting but not to the extent of taking it up as a profession and today he is here.
Aisha Aliyu
One of the up-coming leading actress of the most recent released films of Kannywood. Aisha Aliyu, a young actress that has shown prospects to make it big in the film industry. Begun her acting carrier due to her interest in films to convey to her society, messages on social change. Her first film was Tsamiya and recent film Rabi’a, Rayuwa Bayan Mutuwa, Uzuri and Dakin Amarya She’s sure
Yakubu Mohammad
The handsome actor who has put in over a decade as a practitioner has his hands on almost all the major trades in the line of movie production.
Mohammed has been able to successfully combine his demanding job as an actor with producing, directing, screenplay writing and singing. Those who have followed his career say he is good at what he is doing. They also say that he is having a good run as an actor, producer, singer, writer and director. Will 2016 be better for him… time shall tell.
Adam Zango
Even with all the controversies Adam A. Zango is still a popular Hausa actor who has appeared in many Hausa films. Aside from making films and singing, he also farms. Adam A. Zango was sent to prison for three months in 2007 for release of his music video. He is still one of the brightest and compete favourable with Ali.
Sani Danja
People are still undecided if really Ali Nuhu is the best or Sani Musa Danja one of the best Nigerian recording artiste, songwriter and Actor, Dancer,Movie Producer, Director and entrepreneur. Sani Danja is one of the most celebrated and most decorated all round entertainers to ever emerge from northern Nigeria, little wonder why his teaming fans refer to him as King of the North in entertainment; his versatility has also led many to refer to him by the sobriquet “Jack of all trade and master of all”.
Rahama Hassan
Rahama has paid her dues in the movie industry. The NOUN ambassador and also a lister, she has shown that she could compete favourably with anyone in the industry. She’s expected to be in Nollywood also. She was presented with the Best Actress Award at the Filmbiz Entrepreneurship Awards Organized by YouWin in collaboration with New Qamar Media. And she’s sure certainly going to do more this year.
