  • #Nollywood Entertainment #Nigeria News: Fashion for Africa

THE fourth annual Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards (AMVCAs), held in Lagos, Nigeria, was a show-stopping event which drew film stars from across the continent in all their finery.

It was certainly a fashion spectacle of note, with the rich and famous bringing their A-game, as expected.

The magnificent Eko Hotels served as the venue for both the nominees’ cocktail event on Friday and the awards ceremony on Saturday and African celebs pulled out all the stops when putting together their fashion ensembles.

At the nominees’ cocktail event, nominees and industry stakeholders went right for the required dress code in their best cocktail garb, making sure to look good but still save something special for the big night the following evening.

The Weekender loved radio/TV host Berlamundi’s all black number, and her choice of gold strap heels perfectly finished off her simple, understated look.

Television actress, singer and songwriter Tomi Odunsi was another one of our favourites at the nominees’ cocktail party, taking a bold step in black and white stripes.

On the big night, it was immediately evident that this was indeed Africa’s biggest awards show, with jaw-dropping garments making their way onto the red carpet.

Nollywood actress Caroline Danjuma was red carpet royalty in a floor length golden gown that fit her curves like a glove.

Her sleek high bun and simple make-up worked well for her look and complemented the mother of three’s mermaid dress.

Kemi Lala Akindoju went for drama in her red gown adorned with floral details, featuring one of the biggest hems of the night.

There were definitely more trains on the AMVCA red carpet than we see at the Namibian Annual Musical Awards and we could definitely take some notes on bringing A-class fashion to an A-class event.

An interesting thing about the Nigerian fashion scene is the level of dedication to impeccable make-up, especially for events of this magnitude.

Our favourite looks of the awards show include all the dresses worn by South African TV star Minenhle Dlamini as she hosted alongside IK Osakioduwa.

She was definitely one of the style stars on the main evening, stealing the shine from some of the biggest stars at the event.

All stars had their faces looking decisively perfect and matte at all times despite the extremely humid conditions.

Their secret – sweat proof make-up which should consist of the best primer for your specific skin type and finishing spray to keep everything in place.

It goes without saying that this year’s edition of the AMVCAs did not disappoint in the fashion department and everyone went all out to make the awards show one to remember, leaving lasting impressions across the continent.
