  • #Nollywood Entertainment #Nigeria News: Multichoice Celebrates Africa

Blantyre — For the Month of May, viewers of DSTV are enjoying a growing number of exciting locally produced quality programmes on their hyper local free-to-air and local channels as part of celebrating Africa.

Multichoice Malawi’s marketing manager, Chimwemwe Nyirenda said the month of May is dedicated to showcasing the riches of Africa including culture and art.

This is also part of DSTV’s commitment to supporting the local entertainment industry and talent by continuing to support the African Cinema and by investing in the people, ideas and talent.

So far, Multchoice has for the 20 years emphasized on the objective of ensuring that their service enhances viewers by bringing them content that they can connect with.

“The objective has informed our continuous commitment to support and invest in the growth of Africa’s entertainment industries and showcasing Africa talent through M-Net’s local channels,” explained Nyirenda.

“From Nollywood to Riverwood, we truly believe in telling the African story that our viewers can relate to, with Africa day coming up on 25 May, this month we are celebrating Africa’s story tellers who contribute to the growth of Africa’s film and television industry,” he added.

Nyirenda added that Multichoice is also aware of the fact that the African audience is changing, viewers are more sophisticated which means that the old ways of telling a story can no longer be sustained hence the change to the narrative approach but added that there are always opportunities to tell more stories.

As part of the Africa month celebrations on Friday, Multichoice Malawi treated members of the media to traditional dances, historical sampling and more traditional treats at Kungoni cultural Museum in Mua, Dedza.

According to Nyirenda, the media was taken to Kungoni to have a direct feeling of the rich culture that Malawi has so that they lead the way in showcasing these riches through their work.

“This years’ DSTV Africa month theme is “Africa is a Feeling” and that is exactly why the journalists were brought here to have a direct feel of what the museum here has on the three major tribes of Ngoni, Yao and Chewa,” explained Nyirenda.

There are so many positive stories from Africa that need to be shared to the entire world and that is depicted in the great selection of African content lined up on DSTV and GOtv.

The founder of Kungoni centre, Father Claude Boucher Chisale, a Canadian native and a priest of the Missionaries of the African (white fathers) said Malawians need to celebrate the wealth of Malawi’s cultural artistic inheritance.

The Multichoice Africa day falls on the May 25 and the message to be brought forward is that Africa is a feeling of rich culture and art.
