A veteran actress, Alhaja Zainab Bukky Ajayi, died yesterday at her Surulere residence in Lagos.
She was aged 85 years. She was born a Christian but later converted to Islam in the early 1980s.
Her son, Kunle Fawole, told newsmen that her mother gave up the ghost at exactly 11:45 a.m. Her remains were interred at the Atan Cemetery, Yaba, at 6:00 p.m.
Ajayi’s second son, Akinwande Peter-Thomas, said her mother was a loving and caring woman.
“She was a very strict person, at the same time passionate, considerate and a social worker.
The late Ajayi studied drama at the Institute of Drama, London.
She joined the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on her return from the UK as a Presentation Assistant in 1966 and was on the cast of “Village Headmaster”, a drama series that featured in the 1970s. Ajayi also featured in many Nollywood movies and was a doyen of sorts in the movie industry. (NAN)
