Summer isn’t over yet, but we can already feel the anticipation as dance companies work to open the fall season. This month, we’ve gathered exciting upcoming performances, including A.I.M and John Jasperse Projects, as well as new classes and auditions to add to your calendar.
PERFORMANCESJoin Emma Portner with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago/Third Coast Percussion, and Anne Plamondon Sept. 9–10 at the Guggenheim’s “Works & Process” performing arts series. The evening will include excerpts from her recent commision for Hubbert Street as well as her duet with Plamondon, commissioned by Fall For Dance North. Portner will also screen her newest dance film “Femme Debout.” ($45)
John Jasperse Projects takes the stage at the Joyce Theater Sept. 24–28. Jasperse and his dancers will perform “Hinterland,” about a micro-community where dance is seen as a celebration as well as a refuge from the wreckage of culture and history. A curtain chat will take place Sept. 25. (Tickets starting at $10)
